Again, day 12 was quite short as a result of us getting a day ahead of ourselves around Tilichio. This meant that we had a fairly relaxed start to the day, getting going for 9am after breakfast. Throughout the trip we’d found that the mornings were ideal hiking weather with the wind picking up in the afternoon, and bringing the dust with it.
The road from Kagbeni to Jomsum is little more than a dirt track, but a very busy one at that. We constantly had to find refuge off the road as cars, lorries and busses passed us, kicking up a cloud of dust in the process.
After a short while, around two hours, we arrived in Jomsum, a small town with many shops, hotels and coffee shops, as well as the airport that would take us to Pokhara.
Our tea house was quite an upmarket affair, compared to previous nights, with en suite bathroom with a shower. As was our luck, the hot water didn’t work so we couldn’t sensibly use the shower. Thankfully, some of the other guys from our group were happy to let us use their bathroom. The hot shower felt amazing.
We spent the rest of the afternoon washing some clothes and grabbing a coffee at the local art gallery and cafe, where there was a very talented musician playing the keyboard while we gazed at the amazing mountain vista and the art on display.
That evening we entertained the Nepalese team, Raj, Ram, Nabin and our four porters. We had a lovely evening with them and ended up in a dance off with the porters until the early hours of the morning.
